My Story

I joined Take Stock in Children in the Spring of my 7th grade year. I was in the middle of my PE class and my coach told me to go the front office. Walking towards the office, I wondered if I had done something wrong. It was then I learned I had a mentor! It turned out to be probably one of the greatest moments of my life. Although I didn't know that then, I do know it now.

I can say that because, as a senior now, Take Stock has given me the opportunity to pursue a life past high school. In all honesty, Take Stock's philosophy is what gives me hope. One thing I have learned through Take Stock is that you are not always blessed with opportunities like this in life, but when you are, you must never forget where you came from and must ignite yourself to pursue your life goals relentlessly. Take Stock has created a voice in my head that constantly tells me to help others, and I do just that by helping struggling friends with their online courses or by giving them advice on what courses to take in school.

Take Stock placed me with a mentor that is responsible for all my accomplishments to date. At first, I was aiming low. Now, I'm aiming higher than ever. My mentor is the driving force that encouraged me to go away to college. Now I will be the first person in my family to ever go away to pursue a college degree. My mentor has made me realize that anything is possible. He went from living on the small island of Jersey off the coast of France to attending Oxford University in England. He then became a successful businessman and has still not forgotten that there are people out there that need that extra push to achieve their goals.

Thanks to my mentor and Take Stock, the philosophy of giving back is implanted and will be passed on to future generations. I will be attending the University of Florida to pursue a degree in political science/business and then attend law school. One day, I hope to be on the Board of Directors for Take Stock just like Representative Marlene O' Toole. Wherever I end up, I will always carry Take Stock with me.
